WNRR Augusta – Standing on the proposed riverfront site, Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver unveiled plans for a new multi-purpose baseball stadium for downtown/riverfront Augusta. Officially called a “Sports and Entertainment Complex” the facility would include retail space, hotel/condo space and food service space. According to reports, the operations of the ballpark alone could generate a 21-million dollar impact for the local economy. Combine baseball operations with other events- and up to 32-million dollars could be brought in.
If successful, this is big news for downtown. The report presented to the media goes on to detail: “The construction of the project could generate upwards of $30 million in economic activity, and support 300 jobs in the city”
