More Road Construction Details Announced

September 24, 2008

WNRR Augusta – (Contractor Information) (Unedited)

It would be helpful if we could get a general article out about the work going on in the vicinity of US-25 and I-20.  The general info is as follows:

?         US-25 is being widened to 6 lanes through the interchange.

?         The ramps and loops at this interchange are being replaced and realigned.

?         The US-25 bridges over I-20 are being replaced.

?         The frontage roads on the north side of I-20 are being realigned.

All of this wok is being done while trying to maintain traffic and the shifts to the new alignments will be done in stages.  Many of the activities will require lane closures.  It is anticipated that daytime lane closures will be needed several days a week for the next several months.

The first major shift in traffic will be the opening of the new I-20 ramps and putting traffic on one-half of the new US-25 Bridge over I-20 (the portion currently under construction).  These traffic shifts are expected to take place in Late November or early December.

Other work in the area includes the construction of the I-520 bridges over I-20.  This work has and will continue to result in disruptions to traffic on I-20 over the next several.  Occasional lane closures will be required for some of the activities.  Significant activities that will require momentary road closures will be done at night.

I am going to start sending you a weekly update on anticipated lane closures.  I will try to project out 2 weeks ahead so that the media has an opportunity to help get the word out.
